India to become planet’s number 1 electric vehicle manufacturer – Nitin Gadkari
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, according to a recent article published, has announced that he will be working on making India the number 1 electric car manufacturer in the world. Even though this looks like it is going to be a long process and is going to take a long time, the minister has announced some shocking deadlines on this project.
Nitin Gadkari says that lithium-ion batteries will be completely manufactured in the country within the next six months and make India the leading electric car manufacturer on the planet. In order for this plan to succeed, the government is willing to encourage the automakers too. Apart from electric vehicles, Gadkari has also mentioned that the government is also working on launching Hydrogen Fuel Cells (HFC) technology as an alternative for fuel-powered vehicles.
One of the crucial reasons for the need for alternate transportation is the price of fuel. India spends lakhs of crores just on importing fuel. However, it is expected to double within the next half-decade, which will also lead to an increase in tax and fuel price. Although the price of electric cars is unreasonably high in the market today, Gadkari announced that it will be priced equally to fuel-powered cars within the next couple of years. Adding a=to all the above announcements, Gadkari also mentioned that he encourages the automakers to alternate options like ethanol, methanol, bio-CNG, electric and Hydrogen Fuel Cell.
