The Indian automotive market is aware of the affordable urban cruiser, the Tata Nexon. However, the automobile industries today are slowly shifting from engines to batteries. Tata, in this case, has come out with the new Nexon EV, an eco-friendly version of its popular predecessor. Powered by an electric motor that produces 129 horsepower and gives a range of just over 300 kilometres.
The vehicle is quite durable despite the fact that it is nothing more than an inter-city range transport. The battery pack is water resistance for about 1-metre depth and has good ground clearance. The capacity of the battery pack is 30.2 kilowatts, which is adequate for city driving and does not take a long time to get charged. The exterior has changed a bit from the previous generation and can be easily noticeable by our naked eyes. The Nexon EV gets updated headlights, blue accents and trims which states boldly that it is the electric variant.
Accessories like the easy access band make it easier for us to operate and gain access to the vehicle. The standard version comes with a decent-sized infotainment display and an informative part digital part analogue instrument cluster. It displays the range, the consumption, the battery life and many more. The huge gear lever has been eliminated and replaced by a jaguar landrover-like circular wheel with the modes reverse, neutral, drive and sport. The compact gear shifter provides vast storage space for bottles, chargers and whatnot.
The rear has good headroom and knee room even though it has a sloping roofline a the rear and is a compact vehicle. The seats are comfortable and there is enough under-thigh support. The interior also has blue accents and trims, again indicating that it is the electric variant. Unfortunately, the rear seats do not have any charging ports or blower controls, making it a two-zone climate control car.
The drive is comfortable and smooth. The wheels and suspension do a good job in absorbing small potholes and bumps. Tata claims that this is their first vehicle that does 0-100 kph under 10 seconds. Although the performance is mind-blowing, driving aggressively affects the range if the car. As it is an EV, it is hard to get used to the re-gen brakes at first, but over time you will get used to it.
If you are looking for a budget-friendly and eco-friendly vehicle, the Tata Nexon EV is definitely one to consider for.
